There seems to be lots of them about, are they any good and how do you apply them? What do think of mineral foundation?
I love them. The main reason being they (certain specific brands) are more natural and contain less fillers and are better for the skin, especially acneic, rosacea or sensitive skin. Being a professional makeup artist and having tried so many brands and mediums of makeup and I really prefer minerals as they look natural. Here is a list based off my experience and expertice..........
1) No to Drugstore brands + AVON, MARY KAY (loreal, maybelline, revlon, neutrogena etc.)........They are loaded with chemicals (including bismuth oxychloride- which is not a mineral but a metal that has been processed with tin and copper, it is well known to cause itching, rash and acne) that can aggravate your skin and break you out. Due to these unneeded chemicals and fillers they also leave your skin looking powdery, cakey, strange and dull and with time will make for an overall unhealthy complexion
2) No to bare escentuals..........this is one company who has waaaay to much hype, most of the time it's from people who have never used anything else so they haven't tried anything better. Bare escentuals uses Bismuth oxychloride which is bad for your skin. (as stated above.) they are also not truthful as they say no preservatives yet they use chemical parabeans in their mineral veil and other formulas. They also use cheap fillers like cornstarch and that is the main ingredient in their mineral veil. Their makeup wears off by midday and looks very greasy and shiny.
There are many great mineral companies out there that do not use bismuth oxychloride, I have chosen the one I use after much research looking for purity, absence of chemicals and preservatives, adhesion(how long it stays on) and overall finish (how it looks on)
I use Faerie Organic Minerals a company based near chicago, I really can't say enough good about it. Heres a few reasons I choose them above others....
1)They are natural, no preservatives, no chemicals, cheap fillers or binders
2)they are good for your skin, they help exsiting skin conditions like acne, roseaca, sensitive skin due to the zinc oxide and boron nitride
3) the ingredients they use are listed on the safety cosmetic database http://cosmeticdatabase.com and rate as very safe for your skin and health
4)their minerals are lightweight, airy, natural looking, blend easily, cover redness, acne etc very well and best of all last all day and leave a dewy glow (most companies lack somewhere in this list)
5)They are more affordable than most mineral brands
6)you can get a free sample kit to try first. It comes with 2 foundations, sheer veil (oil absorber) and bronzer
I am sure I am forgetting some additional pluses but you probably getthe idea. This was my choice based on my experience and expectations. I do recommend getting the free sample kit though. http://www.faerieorganic.com

professional makeup artist-10years
skin care specialistWhat do think of mineral foundation?
As a professional makeup artist for over 20 years I highly recommend minerals but there are so many on the market but they all have an ingredient called BISMUTH which is a form of arsenic lead that clogs pores and irritates the skin with itching and rosacea.
I do highly recommend using bee luscious liquid mineral foundation or the new Photo Touch Mineral Foundation these are amazing mineral products and of the highest quality. Your skin will be radiant.
i personally dont like it because it looks quite powdery and it caused a reaction on me and i came out in a rash and was itching like crazy.
ill stick to my MAC studio fix liquid as it looks a lot more natural on me plus i can never get the right shade in mineral foundation because im really really pale.
the only thing good about mineral make-up is that it is easy to apply and quick
i love my mineral foundation, it makes my skin look and feel fantastic without clogging it up too much!
I feel the best mineral foundation comes from avon. Its a fraction of the price from other high-street brands.
If you already have an avon book then take a look through as there is some offers on at the moment entitling you to a free mineral foundation.
If not simply go to avon online.
To appy the mineral foundation simply used a foundation or power brush (a medium sized poofy one)

Hope that helps.
If I'm honest, I understand that they are better for your skin than regular moisturisers, but if you are looking for a reasonably coverage then they are pretty useless, sorry. I would just stick to ordinary ones, these mineral ones are a bit of a waste of money in my opinion. x
I dont see what all the rage is. The main thing is it gives a nice coverage and is not heavy looking. It gives a powdery finish, and is natural looking. People swear by Bare Minerals and they were the first. http://www.bareminerals.com. Other companies like L'Oreal make a cheaper drugstore version. You can apply with a sponge or a powder brush.
i love it iv been using it a bout a year now!! it doesnt come over during the day like normal foundation nd give great coverage, sheer girl is good but its the same as ur natural skin tone, iv tried a few and i think the one u get in dunnes stores make up range is the best!!!
mineral is frikkin awesome
i use covergirl trublend mineral and i heard that bare minerals is absolutely wonderful
I use bareminerals and its really good! People like it because its light and covers. But I think Everyday Minerals and other brands not as expensive as Bare Minerals would work just as good.
